Easthampton Elementary School Survey

Easthampton Elementary School Survey photo

A survey project to support the ultimate reuse of elementary schools in Easthampton.

Overview

The City of Easthampton does not have records of property lines or surveyed plans of the location of school buildings in the City. They also don't have survey data of the location of sidewalks, crosswalks, and underground infrastructure on streets around the schools.

The school water and sewer lines are in poor condition, and the sidewalks and crosswalks need upgrades.

Solution

With support from MassDevelopment, we are working to complete existing condition surveys of the school properties and surrounding streets and sidewalks. Data will be collected on areas that the City owns (ie, rights of way) and survey results will show private property within 10 feet of the schools or along city streets.

Part of the project will also include crews video inspecting sewer lines and mapping other infrastructure.

Outcome

The completed surveys will help the City find funding to upgrade water and sewer lines. They will also provide the data that they need to enhance sidewalks to meet ADA requirements and to consider things like raised crosswalks going forward.
